Yayoi Kusama
If you like polka dots, you'll love Yayoi Kusama and want to rush out to see her exhibition 'Mirrored Years' currently on show at Sydney's MCA. In fact, you probably already have. But you might like to head back to the MCA for some Inspired Reading and join the MCA Book Club for a tour of the exhibition and a discussion of the Haruki Murakami international bestseller Kafka on the Shore.
Tuesday 31st March from 6 - 7:30pm
$10
Also look out for Kusama-san's own 1983 novel 'The Hustlers Grotto of Christopher Street' on sale in the MCA store.
Or if film is more your thing...you may like to attend the special screening of 'Yayoi Kusama - I Adore Myself'
Directed by Takako Matsumoto, the film follows Kusama over the duration of one-and-a-half years, and documents the creation of her series titled 'Love—Forever'.
Friday 27th March, 6pm

ReplyDeletethanks for posting!
Thank you for your comment MT! Nice to know Hello Sandwich makes it to London!
ReplyDeleteYes her spaces are amazing aren't they! I first saw her work in Tokyo years ago and was blown away by one of her giant installations of a mirrored room filled with little party lights.
Sadly the installations in Sydney are a little smaller than that and visitors have a very short time limit in each room :( You really could stay in there for a long time - the spaces have a very special feeling!
Hope you will visit Hello Sandwich again.

I am a student study graphic in UK. Currently, I am
doing my case study about Yayoi Kusama, and I have
some simple questions about her. Could you do me a favour, I'd
be very appreciate!!
(You may send your answer to my google account: notnotnotyet@gmail.com)
1. By what means do you know about Yayoi Kusama?
2.What is your favorite work of her? And what do you feel when
you are looking at it?
3.Does her work resonate with any aspect of your life? In what ways?
4.Would you be curious about her works by only seeing the creations without knowing the artist?
