Today was such a lovely creative day! We had the Hello Sandwich x Shibaura House Handmade Notebook Workshop where participants handmade notebooks and used some Sandwich print outs to decorate their books.

And earlier, it was installation day at Nidi Gallery! So much fun! Lovely chatting in Japanese, Bisaji-san playing with a cute hand made balloon ball, beautiful natural light streaming in, my cute friend Gracie setting up an 'Australian' summer drawing installation complete with Coopers Green bottle...! So nice!

The day was dotted with iced lattes with my super cool friend Luke from art school in Sydney who arrived in Tokyo this morning. The sweetheart came everywhere with me today and helped me install and set up at the workshop...all after a sleepless overnight flight. Yasashiiiii!

Tokyo Etsy Craft Party!

Photobucket

Hello Sandwiches!

I just uploaded my first Hello Sandwich post for My VOGUE Japan blog! The first post the lovely team at VOGUE Japan posted on my behalf so it was a challenge to navigate through the Japanese backend of the site...But somehow I pressed a little yellow button with some unfamiliar kanji and the post seems to have gone live! I've posted in Japanese and English so I hope you can pop over to have a peek.

My post is about the Tokyo Etsy Craft Party which is on today in Shibuya. It sounds like a lot of fun and everyone is welcome. They will be hosting workshops showing how to make fabric badges and a cute little bow ring. It's all in honour of the Etsy Worldwide craft party.

I hope wherever you are you'll be able to make some craft today. You may even like to watch some episodes of Hello Sandwich Craft TV for inspiration (the new episode is here)! Or dig out your copy of the Hello Sandwich Gift Wrapping Zine and make a little confetti bow for someone you love :)

Back to the blogging topic...I'm also writing a Tokyo column for Poppytalk blog, and I also write a weekly Tokyo column for Michi Girl Website! Pop on over some time to say hello.

Happy Weekend Sandwiches!

Crafternoon

Ros carved a beautiful stripe stamp for us after we inspired by a similar stamp in a craft book.

Thank you Ros for these two pics (above).

This little tree came from the most beautiful tote bag my talented friend Gracie decorated at a Tupera Tupera workshop. Gracies was 1000 times cuter.

Yesterday Ros and I spent a lovely Golden Week crafternoon in Yoyogi Koen. It was so relaxing and inspiring combining our craft materials and setting up a mini craft studio at a park table. Ros brought some cute muji calico bags, felt stickers, markers, screen printing paints and a stamp carving set. And I brought some paper craft materials, stamping set, and a collection of craft books for inspiration. We chatted about life in Tokyo, craft and blogging while we decorated tote bags, envelopes and cards and for a couple of hours we relaxed and enjoyed the fact that being in a park is one of the safest places to be in the event of an earthquake.

Poor Ros cut her self on the stamp carving tool but is now recovering. We discovered yet another use for mt tape :)

Hanna and Hana Exhibition

Yesterday Hiki-chan and I saw the lovely 'Making a home' exhibition by Hanna and Hana at Biotape in Gakugeidaigaku. It was such a beautiful exhibition with finely delicate works painted with gouache in the most adorable colours. The two Han(n)a's made a series of complimenting works on the same subject on the same size paper. You can see an example of what I mean in this last picture above where the girls have taken the subject matter of a bird and each drawn it in their own original way. It's worth clicking on these girls websites for a peek at their other beautiful work.

The exhibition has left me inspired to get to work drawing and recording my daily life in Tokyo inside these new notebooks I bought from Itoya last week. Aren't they pretty notebooks!? I bought all of these for under ¥2000! P.S. If you love Japanese stationery, you'll love Justine's round up of Tokyo stationery shops.

Photobucket

Oh did I tell you I've joined the local gym here and started to do aerobics lessons (in Japanese!). Wow it's really like the water aerobics scene from lost in translation! I can't really understand much at all!

Yonkai!
Hidari!
Aruku!

Occasionally however, the instructor will call out something like 'stepu tachi' which is something like a 'step touch / tap'! And at one stage she glanced over to me when I was doing my mambo and called out 'Suteki!' so I think i must not be doing too bad! I'm happy to be taking aerobics classes in Japanese! It kind of kills two birds with the one stone, I can get fit and learn Japanese at the same time!

Also, there is a little interview about me over here at Daily Imprint *blush*. Special thanks to Real Living Magazine's Natalie for the sweet as pie words!

Thank you Miss Justine Fahd for these beautiful photos and this lovely Tokyo Guide Zine mention.

Photobucket

Oooo what a super fun day we had at the MCA Zine Fair on Sunday!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Such lovely company with fellow zinesters Yumi Takahashi and Rhys Turner.

Yumi made a beautiful art / collage / drawing / painting zine printed on recycled paper and hand-bound using a traditional Japanese binding technique. And Mr 'whatcha mean whats a zine' Turner made two beautiful zines (printed very professionally on the best paper stock ever), one about a mummy skater and the other was a collection of Holga photographs from his travels in Europe.

Our little 'Quality Row' also included the amazing Lee Tran Lam and her beautiful Paris zine which sold out before lunch time (but if you email her she might make more!) and Sonya Gee and her 'zomg you're sick' care packs.
