I love the way that Japanese bookstores such as Book 1st and Kinokuniya will cover your books in branded paper for you. In fact, its one of the things that gets me through my 5 hour Japanese class every Saturday - because its my dream to be able to read a Book 1st paper covered Japanese novel on board the Yamanote-sen.
But I also love Japanese fabric book covers - especially the hand made type! Aren't they just lovely!
Wouldn't it be nice to custom make one of these book covers! Oh and if you like Japanese craft you might also like this blog post by the lovely Allison. And a big thank you Allison for your link to some great Tokyo Shopping Tips.

ReplyDeleteAbout nihongo i cannot read a novel or a book i can read everything in my class books and simple things because i handle hiragana y katakana very well but i just know 250 kanji and is not enough to read, when people finish high school here they know 900 kanji (i think so) and then in university 2000, for read the press is necessary to know at least 900 kanji but in total they have more than 6000. I do not know if i will be able to read a book in japanese, it would be nice!! but for the moment i cannot handle one more language so i am taking japanese very light.

Oh those fabric covers are soo lovely. I saw some gorgeous ones in shops last visit and I'm hoping to buy some this time round. It's such a nice idea. The Japanese use them for novels right? Or also for diaries and journals?

Hello Lisa! How are you? You must be excited about your trip to Tokyo soon! What are your dates again? Yes the Japanese use them for novels mostly and for diaries too! Usually I go to Tokyo in December / early Jan and all of the shops are full of diaries and cute little covers to go with them! Oh no my Nihon-go has a very long way to go!Unfortunately I only know about 250 kanji so still a lot to learn! But I am really enjoying it and find it very enjoyable to go to class every Saturday.
