You may have already seen this but I couldn't help but post about Mysterious Letters!
Mysterious Letters is a collaboration between artists Lenka Clayton and Michael Crowe who sent a personal, handwritten letter to each of the 467 households in the small Irish seaside town of Cushendall. The letters were positive in spirit, and differed greatly in form and content. The artists hoped that these beautiful unsolicited letters will prompt neighbourly discussion that would spread across the town, promoting community curiosity. When compared between neighbours, no two would be the same.
The art work consists solely of the discussion between the recipients about what on Earth these letters are, who sent them and why, etc. On the day the letters were sent it was announced in the national press.
This was the first chapter in an ongoing project. The artists eventual aim is to write a personal, hand-written letter to every household in the world! How gorgeous! I can't wait to receive mine!

ReplyDeleteI really like handwritten notes/letters/cards. In this time and age where everything's electronic, handwritten really warms the heart. I get a thrill whenever I see a handwritten envelope addressed to me. :)

ReplyDeleteThat is such a beautiful idea, it made my heart sing. But how sad is it that we live in a world where an upbeat, lovely, hand written letter can make people feel scared? Some of the people's reactions really saddened me. Like you, I can't wait to receive mine!

ReplyDeleteThis post and mysterious letters made me feel happy all day long. I think seeing ones handwriting for the first time is fascinating. It adds to the personality, especially when you find out that their handwriting is different than you would have expected. It feels quite intimate these days to be able to recognize ones handwriting, I only recognize the handwriting of really close friends.
I'm rambling a bit now.
I like the friendliness and the casual tone of the letters. Gorgeous!
One more thing I need to say is that I love your blog. It's a happy and enchanting place to visit. Thank you!
