おたより Exhibition

Photobucket

Hello Sandwiches,

Today we went to the おたより Exhibition in Ginza. (Thank you Hanibuchi-san for the tip!) The おたより exhibition features creative and colourful envelopes sent (mostly within Japan) to Kobe based Galerie 6c. The artists of the envelopes ranged from school children to adults.

It was beautiful to see the way that the postage stamps were intertwined into the artworks on some of these envelope works. For instance, the above envelope which features a drawing of Mt Fuji, where the tip of the mountain is a postage stamp.

The exhibition will continue in Ginza, Tokyo until November 5th, 2012 here (number 3 on the map). The exhibition will then continue on to Carta Bianca in Osaka. (I once held a workshop at their Tokyo store Winged Wheel).

I really enjoyed this exhibition and if you have a chance to visit the exhibition, please do! And if not, please enjoy seeing some of the beautiful envelopes below here.

    1. It's lovely isn't it! There was recently a book published here in Japan of an artist who works with making stamps into envelope artworks. He is so skilled you can hardly identify the stamps!!

  11. Oh my gosh, I wanna do this to my own wall...since I'm waaay across the ocean and don't think I'll ever get to see this. But only thing is that I have a shortage of cool mail art from Japan. I'll just pretend :). It's such a brilliant idea. Japan, they got all the good stuff. They should make an exhibition book or pamphlet on this. And I can't get over how cool and beautiful the Nihon postage stamps are. If I were in Japan I'd totally be buying postage stamps just for art/collage purposes :D This post is eye candy! Oh, and so delighted to see a link to Send More Mail, one of my favorite mail blogs (J's my pen pal and such a wonderful gal). Now off to see those links to this exhibition. x
