Kitazawa Details
The little things in Tokyo make me so happy. Seeing a man write kanji characters on a chalk board in the back of a truck on my morning walk. A tiffany blue neatly wound hose on my way home from the supermarket. Spotting some Japanese books someone has given away on the side of the street, neatly presented in an open cardboard box. Plastic planter pots taped up with tan coloured packaging tape. A teeny baby blue rubbish bin with pink ribbons tied on each handle, presumably for identification. Walking through my neighbourhood at 9am you will see obaachans sweeping up leaves from an already neat garden, and at 7pm you can smell the only-in-Japan smell of households taking their daily bath with distinctively Japanese smelling bath products. Here are a few detail shots from my walk around my little neighbourhood today.

ReplyDeleteHello Emily, Yes I have started using Instagram and find it very addictive! Makes taking photos even more fun!
ReplyDeleteIt's one of the things I love the most in Japan indeed... Those little things that you see on the streets, that anywhere else in the world would never catch my attention but in Japanese cities, somehow, they are able to tell a story and make me smile.

You nailed it. I love taking walks in my neighborhood just to see these little beautiful things that can not be found anywhere else in the world. The other day it was raining, and an ojiisan offered me his umbrella. It was such a sweet gesture, even though I politely inclined. I think that is one of the things I love the most about Tokyo, you can see something new every day, even in your own area.
ReplyDeleteHello Sandwich, I totally with you that little details can make us happy^^ We just need look out for them^^ Again, nice pictures!

I love the Castle linen! Hurrah for spots. I think it makes life more enjoyable when you can appreciate the little things. Shimo Kitazawa is so cute! I made some of my favourite vintage purchases there.
