Supermarket

Sometimes, when I'm in my local supermarket, seeing all of the unique vegetables, and Japanese signage, I have to pinch myself to think that I live in this incredible city! I know it's not so exciting to some, but a trip to the supermarket always makes me feel so lucky to live here. Here, I can't find many of the ingredients to cook the things I used to cook nightly from my Donna Hay cookbook, but that's part of the charm. Learning how to cook Japanese dishes like hiyashichyuka, okonomiyaki, gokokumai, and hijiki is so interesting for me. It's small things like bumping into someone and hearing 'ah, sumimasen', or selecting from thousands of tofu and rice options, or perhaps seeing bread in the shape of a bear that make it interesting. I usually smile at at least one thing each time I come here :)

Nakameguro

Nakameguro, located on the Tokyu Toyoko Line or the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line, is one of my favourite Tokyo suburbs. Here you can stroll along the cherry blossom lined canal, flick through art books (in English!), buy vintage clothes by weight (more about these places in Hello Sandwich Tokyo Guide coming soon) and eat organic food from Kyoto at Aoya. Potentially Tokyo's hippest suburb, Nakameguro is super popular with designers, artists, musicians and all round creative types and is, perhaps, the best suburb to ride around on your (rented?) Mamachari.

BONILL CAFE
1-15-8 Aobadai, Nakameguro-ku, Tokyo

Bonill is a clothing select shop by day and quaint little cafe+bar by night. Definitely worth popping in.

AOYA
1-15-10 Aobadai, Nakameguro, Tokyo.

Aoya
is a charming little cafe located in a Showa-era house tucked deep into Nakameguro's backstreets. Although it can be a little tricky to find (look out for the lantern just down the road from Bonill), you won't want to miss the 1200yen lunch set. The five grain rice here is to die for!

PASSE COMPOSE
1-1-52 Naka-Meguro, Meguro-ku, Tokyo

Pop into Passe Compose if you are in the market for some sweet French homewares and home accessories. Well, you can never have too many polka dot tea pots right?

More Tokyo tips like this will be in my Hello Sandwich Tokyo Guide coming soon! The Hello Sandwich guide will come complete with maps to make it much easier to get about! Phew!

Hello Sandwich Garage Sale #2 (Fabric Pack Special!)

If you missed the first Hello Sandwich Garage Sale (see more here) then you might like to come along to the second Hello Sandwich Garage Sale this Sat! This time the sale is at a very special location...out the back of my mums shop! (Thanks mum!xxx)

I will be selling more of the pre-loved packs but this time I cleaned out my fabric cupboard and have boxes full of lovely little fabric and craft packs! Did you know I used to have my own fashion label and also stocked a range under a 'diffusion' label to chain store Dotti? Needless to say I have a LOT of fabric and sewing supplies so if you are in need of buttons, thread, fabric, trims, wool, patterns etc...then you might like to pop on over.

And, you may have noticed I adore Gift Wrapping? Well, I have put together some little Gift Wrapping Packs containing everything you need to create beautifully wrapped presents. The packs I have put together for the Garage Sale are slightly different (and slightly cheaper) than the packs on my online store!

Remember my pretty tanabata installation? I'm also selling some of the unique elements from this artwork which would look so pretty hanging in any room.

Other items for sale are: Art books, design books, magazines, lots of cute accessories, clothes, shoes, handbags, homewares, pretty rolls of wallpaper, knick-knacks, bikes, furniture, BBQs, CD's, sporting equipment and lots of the usual garage sale stuff!

And...this time Mr Y also got involved with the spring cleaning and has some great Japanese clothes and shoes to sell so bring your boyfriend!

Do come along and say hello and snap up a Pre-loved by Hello Sandwich bargain!

Hello Sandwich Spring Cleaning Fun

Little Gracie and Hello Sandwich

Wowsers~! I am one little tired sandwich after a weekend of Hello Sandwich Pop-Up Garage Sales and Sunday Market Stalls. All of the Pre-loved Hello Sandwich Packs are now happily in their new homes and finally Hello Sandwich is in her home (>_<). Phew~! What a lovely weekend it was. I did the Garage Sale with my dearest friend little Gracie (aka From A Sow's Ear) who worked so hard to make it all come together. Thank you sweet Gracie. Love you.

I had a special visit from Amy of Pretty Pretty Yum Yum (remember I wrote about Amy here and here?). The sweet pea even dropped of a special copy of her new zine Waku Waku which is all about Japan and if you like Japan, you will have to buy it if you haven't already!

And then another very special visit from Miss Sonya from The Matchbox project who gave me one of her little match boxes! Eeep ~ Lucky!

I still have a few Pre-loved by Hello Sandwich lovely fabric and trims packs which are too cute so I will be adding them to my online shop this week.

I hope you all had a gorgeous weekend!
